Keywords: disk, controller, RLL Message-ID: <6306@borabora.omni.com> Date: 10 May 91 22:59:47 GMT Expires: 10 Jun 91 19:00:00 GMT Organization: Interphase West, Mountain View, CA Lines: 25 I have a Western Digital WD1002A-27X hard disk controller in my old XT clone. It's controlling a Seagate ST-238R. It works fine at 4.77 MHZ, but often locks up and gives "disk not ready" errors when I run the bus at 8 MHz. It is possible that my clone's timing is a little off, I guess, but 8 MHz just doesn't seem fast enough to cause this type of problem. None of my other cards seem to have any trouble at 8 MHz. The Western Digital technical support line says there is no fix or workaround other than running at the slower speed. (Great. After I wait on hold for 10 minutes at my expense. Thanks a lot.) So, can anyone recommend an RLL controller for my XT which will run at 8 MHz on a possibly off-speed clone? Maybe you have a cheap used one to sell me? Or can anyone tell me how I can test (and hopefully adjust) the speed of my XT accurately? Thanks, -- Bob Weissman Internet: bob@omni.com UUCP: ...!{apple,decwrl,pyramid,sgi,uunet}!omni!bob
