System 7.0 Message-ID: <20323@crdgw1.crd.ge.com> Date: 6 Jun 91 16:37:25 GMT Sender: news@crdgw1.crd.ge.com Organization: General Electric Research & Development Lines: 21 Now that System 7.0 supports serverless file sharing, wouldn't it be nice if I could, say, use my 2400 baud async modem to call up some other Mac, also with an async modem, and use the Sys 7.0 file sharing protcols between them! I'm not aware of any software product that allows this to happen at the present time. Things like the NetModem only seem to support one-half of the required connection -- that is, you can connect to an Appletalk network with a dial-up async modem, but the "other end" has to be part of a standard LocaTalk network. What I'm thinking of is sort of like SLIP, only supporting Appletalk protocol stacks instead of TCP/IP. Once the connection was made, the software would disappear into the background, leaving you with a transparent system-to-system appletalk connection. It seems as this could be a very popular and useful product. Does anyone know of something like this planned or available? -Bill Leue leue@crd.ge.com
