To do this simply type "BINARY", this changes the file type from the default ASCII, the reason for this is that GIFs are not Bin-Hexed and therefore are not text files. This means that when you download from your account to your computer, you must also change the transfer to binary (NOT MACbinary). Once you have downloaded the file, you need not unstuff it or Hex-Bin it, all you have to do is use a program (I use GIF converter) and open the file from within this application since the file type will not default to your program and thus will not launch upon double-clicking. I hope this helps, but I myself have been unable to download any binary files from this USENET service! I don't know how to change the transfer to binary, or if it is even possible. Has anyone out there ever downloaded a GIF from USENET????!! --Stephen White
