Message-ID: <1991Jun13.201638.1360@pictel.uucp> Date: 13 Jun 91 20:16:38 GMT Distribution: usa Organization: PictureTel Corporation Lines: 47 I have to get a database package that runs on SPARC's. I've sent for Postgres but would also like to consider AT DBaseIV. I'm not a DBase programmer and so I can't really evaluate it myself. I've been told that the higher level SQL stuff in DBaseIV might still be brain damaged, but since my needs are fairly simple I needn't worry about those features for my purposes, I'll never use them. But if we get DBaseIV on the network, and someone decides to try something fancier, and it doesn't work I'm going to have to explain why I bought this package. Get it? My needs: - Common purchase order database (we buy a lot of stuff) - Captital asset management (keeping track of all that stuff we buy) - Common job request database so users can make requests and support staff can better coordinate who does what. - Site logs for all 100+ nodes, maintenance agreements, configurations, ownership, etc. I'm told this is trivial stuff. Fine, I've got the money to contract to have this stuff written, and that`s really what I care about. But is there any reason to consider some other package? What are your experiences with DBaseIV? On Suns? In general?
