The U.S. version doesn't support V.23, but the U.K. one does.  V.23 isn't
a very important modulation in the States.

The U.K. modem uses an RS232 speed of 1200 in both directions, while
the modem transmits at 75 bps and receives at 1200 bps.  No need for
a special port in your computer...
