Message-ID: <1991Jun10.082202.1514@cynic.wimsey.bc.ca> Date: 10 Jun 91 08:22:02 GMT Sender: curt@cynic.wimsey.bc.ca (Curt Sampson) Organization: Mad Artists' Technological Hangout Lines: 27 I just bought an ATI9600etc V.32/V.42bis modem. I'm having some problems with it. Some of the cheaper low speed modems get a lot of garbage when they're connected to it (this has been known to happen with the ATI2400etc modems as well). Worse yet, when connected to a T2500 the ATI has a tendency to hang up in the middle of catting a large file (with MNP turned on). With MNP turned off it tends to halt in the middle of a %take. I believe that the ATI is using the Rockwell chipset. I've heard that there have been problems with this chipset. I've also heard about problems with the V.32 in the Telebit T2500 and T1600 modems. Any idea what's up here? I'm probably going to return this modem; it seems rather flakey. (Oh, did I mention that once in a while it will go and decide to maintain carrier rather than hanging up and sit there whining into an empty phone line until I turn it off? The front panel and the command input, including +++, are dead to the world when this happens.) I've heard good things about the USR V.32bis modems, and I can get one at a resonable price; is this likely to work well with my host's T2500? cjs -- | "This sound system comes to you with fuel injection.
