[national electrical code insists on physical protection near ground level, but allows direct burial... (I know you were talking about Phone, but the garden hose idea applies to any...] Anyhow, the hose provides very good protection from shovels provides a conduit for pulling/replacing wire ( if you put in an extra pull wire, you can later pull something else through. (use separate hoses for AC) Hose is easier to pull up later if necessary. It is cheap, and gets some real use out of trash!! Wex
