But that's not important right now. It also gives us full control over line spacing, proportional printing and type styles. I've automated things like headers, footers, indexes, tables of contents, etc. I don't normally use those things on a day-to-day basis, but they've come in handy from time to time. Probably the reason I use it the most (as opposed to other, more sophisticated programs) is because: 1. It's real quick. 2. We use a lot of pre-printed forms and it's a snap to have it fill in the blanks; i.e., name[ John Doe] date[ June 3, 1991] age[ 55] history[ ... ] I use screen 1 to define the relevant commands in a particular file. My secretary has no problem running the program or using the full- screen editor I wrote for it. Back in the dark ages when I was using cp/m (a couple months ago) I would send the document to a disk file to run a spelling checker on it before printing. I'm sure it's simple to do in DOS, so I'll probably add that in soon. Another thing I like about it is that I can have one big file called "reports.txt" to store the source on. Then, and INDex will quickly help me find any previous report that was written (obviously, they're stored in order by date). At the end of the year, I archive each text file for the year. ----- This message came from GEnie via willett. You *cannot* reply to the author using e-mail.
