Bad Manners. I disagree - there's no problem sending back (properly allocated) numbers if someone queries for them, regardless of whether they are reachable or not. I would have no problem getting back a 3.a.b.c address were I to ask for the IP address of grymoire.crd.ge.com. Of course, there's no reason why I should ever want to do that, the MX for that name is crdgw1.ge.com and its that address that I need to find, if you give me both the 192.35.44 and 3.x.y.z addresses for that, that's fine, I can reach one of them (ideally you should return the class C address first for requests from hosts not on net 3, so people will try the right one - that BIND is able to do for you). I assume here that you aren't about to advertise grymoire as an anon ftp site, or suggest that people telnet to it, that would result in annoying timeouts, or unreachables - but no worse than "No address associated with name" what is what I get now if I attempt to telnet to there (I understand it, but I'm not sure your average user would). kre
