You have your modem commands backwards.  Q0 is "not quiet".  Result codes 
are ENABLED.

As you say, most Unix systems do not want result codes, therefore the
setting would be Q1 on most modems, and Q4 on Telebits, as I said.

There has been talk of a "wrapper" around getty in the A/UX groups,
so I surmise that Tim is using one of those.
