Yesterday we had a MS traveling road show here.  The lady had a compaq
slt386 running win3 and dos 5.0 it all worked good for her even if she
did not know the difference between extended/expanded ram....
I asked her about the conflicts between MSDOS and the older Pheonix
BIOS.  She said she had "heard they got around it."     |-[   Bah!

    IF YOU ARE RUNNING A 286 WITH AN OLDER VERSION OF THE PHEONIX BIOS
    YOU CAN HAVE ALL SORTS OF WIERD PROBLEMS.
	ex.   WIN.INI disappears (goes to 0 bytes) after editing it with
 	      SYSEDIT.   ANY attempt to recreate it, windows copy, dos copy,
	      rename, and copy all report successful but destination is 0
	      bytes.
    	 	THIS WAS CONFLICT WITH PHEONIX AND COMPAQ's MSDOS 3.31
		ON RETURNING TO DOS 3.3.0 THE PROBLEMS WENT AWAY.
    During my fight with this BS, I managed to get through to MS tech support
    The tech there had seen my problem before -- I must'a been lucky ;-) --
    recommended that I go back to 3.3.0 and warned me that I might have 
    probelms with "future versions of MSDOS" --This was 4 days prior
    to the 5.0 announcement...........
