Warning, spoilers may follow...

You may have pressed too many buttons.  As I remember it, there is a place
on the <next to> lowest level of the pyramid that looks something like:

             ------------  
          ___|x         |  <-- this room is a 2x2 room
          |x ||         |
          -----------   |     
                    |   | <-- not too sure about the shape of this
      --------------    |
      <>                |
      -------------------   x is a button 
                            || is a secret door
                            <> is a pit

If you push the button behind the secret door, the pit closes up.  You
absolutely need to go into the pit -- there is a lower level of the dungeon
down there and you will not be able to get through the upstairs gate
w/o doing this.  I hope you have a save that isn't too far back -- I had
to fight through all the zombies and the pyramid again after discovering
that I had pushed the wrong button.

You should find two eyes, but I don't remember where.  One you get from
a rock monster.
