Yes, it's true that most monitors don't have speakers. The TT has a speaker built in. It also has stereo output jacks on the back so you can hook it up to an amplifier and speakers, and you can turn off the internal speaker if you want. The idea is that the internal speaker can be used for normal stuff like beeps and bells, but for high-quality digitized sound you're likely to want to use the stereo outputs.
