How do you post a new article in "TheNews"?

It would appear that you cannot post to a 
group that has no mail.  That is, the 
"post new" menu item is greyed out unless
you are inside the group.

Also, how can you read old (already read)
articles?  The "unread" command is greyed
out unless you are in the group.

Solving that problem would solve (sort of) the
first problem.
