The "unread" command is greyed > out unless you are in the group. You have to be in the group in order to post a new message, but you can go into the group even if there is no new mail in it. Just double-click on the group name, and a window will come up to show you all the headers of new articles. Now, that window *will* be empty since there are no new articles, but at that point you just select "Post New..." from the menu. The second question is a bit trickier. I haven't read the manual for TheNews yet, but I think the only way you can do that is to change your preferences settings. Turn off the "only show unread articles" option, click "Okay" (instead of "Save"), and then double-click on the group you want to see. You'll get the headers for all articles which are in that group. Hmm, I guess the first one might require a preferences change too, depending on how your preferences are set. If you have the "only show groups with unread articles" preference on, you'll have to turn that off and re-open your newsgroup file. Then the newsgroup will be listed even though it has no new articles. I always run with that option off, though. - - - - - - - - Garance Alistair Drosehn = gad@rpi.edu or gad@eclipse.its.rpi.edu ITS Systems Programmer (handles NeXT-type mail) Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; Troy NY USA
