(I know it is futile, but...) If we stay with the 2D games, and primarily the SW/PD ones: A list (and my own rating) of some Tetris-like games for the Mac: ================================================================= Tetris by Spectrum Holobyte. B/W version, Color version, DA version. Very polished. Music, sounds, color version is 256 colors. Commercial. ***** Tetrix. Plain tetrisoid. Simple but ok. Worth the space on the disk. Poor graphics, but it feels appropriate. Appears to be freeware. *** Catch the Buzz. Well... different. More luck than skill. Gives silly comments in the window title. Lots of flicker. Shareware. ** Wesleyan Tetris. Nice graphics. Makes rude sounds for every piece you drop; very annoying. Bombs frequently. Some features looked promising, but when it just doesn't work... Very large due to all the sounds. Is it shareware? Don't know: it bombs when I try to pull down the apple menu. * Hextris. Hexagonal. Lacks some features, like high scores. Decent graphics. Shareware. ** Bikaka. Hexagonal the other way around. Freeware. (No rating. I refuse to rate my own game.) Cumulonimbus. One of the tetrisoids that believe that the screen should be blanked once in a while. Lots of settings. Simple graphics, looks poor on B/W screen. 1$ Begware. ** Columns. Match patterns rather than fill lines. Nice. Shareware. **** The ratings mean something like: * = Poor. Trash it. ** = OK, but needs some improvements. *** = Good. **** = Addicting. ***** = Excellent. DISCLAIMER: I havn't played all of these games all that much, so some statements might be made on loose grounds, especially concerning the games that I don't like. If I rated your game low, please don't get mad. There was something I didn't like about it. How about improving it? -- Ingemar Ragnemalm Dept. of Electrical Engineering ...!uunet!mcvax!enea!rainier!ingemar .. University of Linkoping, Sweden ingemar@isy.liu.se
