Message-ID: <1991Jun11.151112.1154@epas.toronto.edu> Summary: Memory missing from 'Abt this Mac...' Sender: pgiltner@epas.toronto.edu (Phil Giltner) Organization: University of Toronto - EPAS Distribution: na Date: Tue, 11 Jun 1991 15:11:12 GMT I am running a Classic with 2 megs, and have noticed a rather annoying oddity, and would like to know if someone could tell the reason for such a thing. When pulling down the 'About this Macintosh' command from the Apple menu, I get the report that the system file uses 995 k. When I try to open 2 applications, the available memory and system memory do not add up to the total memory available. For example, I can have 150k with Downline, 550 for my communications program; add this to the 177k largest block available, and the total is 1,872. Where is the missing 176k? If I could use it, I could also open a feature-laden word-processor. Now, when I hide the communications program, the system goes up to 1,162k, but that still leaves 9 k missing. What's going on here? You can send to me direct, but I think others may have noticed something similar. Phil Giltner Dept of History U of T PGILTNER@EPAS.UTORONTO.CA
