Is there a way to increase the number of files (windows?) system 6.x allows
open at once?

I frequently get the error -42, which I'm assuming is too many files open;
typically I'm running Textures (which opens a lot of font files at launch),
and usually a couple of NCSA Telnet sessions are running.  When I try to
print, print monitor comes back w/ this error code; sometimes I get the
immediate message (from textures) "can't open the printer:  too many files".

So, how to fix?
