The exact number isn't known, nor is the timeframe, but there will be a healthy number of them (there are 44 VAX2000s out there, 20ish empty slots earmarked for NeXTs, plus some others floating around...). Not sure about NeXT sales to undergrads or faculty, but a friend of mine and I ordered them the day after they were announced, and the total number of order is probably somewhere in the 50 - 100 ballpark over the past 10 months, if not higher.
