If you upgrade a 4D/25 to a 4D/35 it has to be | running 3.3.2. Maybe unsuprisingly, it can't be upgraded from 3.3.3 as | a 4D/25 and will not run the 3.3.3 tape as a 4D/35 (this is from the | hotline, not an empirical result). Yes, this is a side effect of the timing of the two releases. SOME of the fixes (those that seemed appropriate, and were done early enough) are already part of the 4D35 release. For cases where the bug fixes don't affect files that are on the 4D35 tape (try 'versions long 4D35' to get the list) you should be able to install them. Because some of the files on 3.3.3 might overwrite files on the 4D35 tape, you should probably re-install the 4D35 tape AFTER installing 3.3.3, making sure that you do a 'set neweroverride' first. Note that this is definitely NOT something we would recommend (installing 3.3.3 on a 4D35), just a comment on what would need to be done. The 4.0 IRIX release has full support for the 4D35, so there won't be a 4D35 product in that release. There may be a maintainence tape for the 4D35, containing support for the audio hardware, and maybe (I don't know) some of the 3.3.3 changes. It depends on the timing with 4.0, etc. As usual, these are only my opinions, not official SGI statements... (Got to put one of those in every month or so!) -- Dave Olson Life would be so much easier if we could just look at the source code.
