Subject: Why is make taking a dive?

I'm trying to build iv2.6 (w/ patches 1-13) under SunOS 4.1.1 with g++ 1.39.1 and I get to  
the point where 'make World' actually starts to compile and I repeatedly get the message:

make: Warning: Don't know how to make target  
../../../.././src/libInterViews/SUN4/libInterViewsX11.a

followed by repeated notices that make failed for the target all.  Can somebody clue me in  
as to what is happening?
