Excuse me but this is not the case. If you have an OS like Unix, System 7 or any OS that provide virtual memory you are back to -(drum roll please) a segmented OS. Pages are just large segments. But honestly it depends entirely on how efficient the architecture to to begin with. An efficiently designed segmented arch. can be faster than a non-segmented one.
