I am only a dabbler in watching birds, but it seems to me
that my sightings of the common egret around the Chicago
suburbs has increased dramatically in recent years.  I
never saw one up here until about 5 years ago, and now I
see them often by roadside ponds and streams.  What is the
official story on egrets and their spread northwards?
I realize they are responding to the relief from hunting
that used to exist.  Thanks to anyone who can shed light on 
this.
