Tom Simmonds mentioned being led to a study of the Vedas after
reading Thoreau's Walden.  I had a similar experience, only it
came after reading Emerson's Essays (I still prefer Emerson to
Thoreau, although I know many feel exactly the reverse!)

I wonder if others have been influenced by the American Transcendent-
alists in their studies?
