Version 4 firmware had support for MNP3 and parts of MNP4. Version 5 and higher has support for MNP4 error correction and MNP5 data compression. You can find out the firmware in your modem by issuing the "ATI3" command. You enable MNP error correction with the S95 register. S95=2 is the normal setting. MNP5 data compression is enabled by setting S96=1. MNP is only available in the slow speed modulations (2400 and 1200 bps).
