I worked on it while I was a summer intern last summer (and this summer) at Thinking Machines Corporation. It does adaptive subdivision and some other nifty things. Essentially it implements Wallace et al's algorithm for computing form factors using raytracing in parallel. I've written up some stuff but not extensively since another person and I are working on some methods to speed up the ray tracing step.
