FCB means File Control Block in F83 lingo (ans elsewhere). I'd suspect that either it can't file the files, or it has run out of file handles. In the first case, Jax's suggestion of putting them on drive A may help. In the second, put a line with FILES=20 into your CONFIG.SYS and see if that helps. If you don't have such a file, then you are probably getting bit by the excesses of DOS' default of 8 handles.
