I would think it would be easier to implement some kind of mail
batching capabilities rather than rewriting uucp for multiple
machines.  I think I've seen postings about mail batchers similar
to news batching that would cut uucp down significantly by
eliminating the startup times on many small messages.

uutraf reports on camco typically report total times for uunet at
less that half that billed.  I think this is the inter-file times
since uutraf is only reporting individual file transfer times,
not connect times.  Cutting this time in half would save me
several hours each month :-)
