A non-netter friend is researching sabbaticals with the goal of
persuading her private-sector computer company to adopt this here-
tofore largely academic concept.  She would like to hear some facts 
and opinions from both academia and government/industry, including:

*  Personnel affairs (duration, pay, return to job)
*  What you did/what people do during the sabbatical
*  Published studies on the subject of private-sector sabbaticals
*  Benefits to the organization (e.g., skills development,
   personnel retention, information gathered, collaboration)

Thank you very much for your assistance.  I've cast my net rather 
widely, and would guess that E-mail replies or followups to 
misc.jobs.misc would be most appropriate.  I'll keep a running
summary and dispense it by E-mail upon request.
