Message-ID: Date: 20 Jun 91 14:55:52 GMT Sender: news@dftsrv.gsfc.nasa.gov Distribution: comp Organization: STX/GSFC Nasa Lines: 31 I purchased PC Tools 7.0 on 6/18. I finally got around to backing up the system this morning with CPBACKUP which came with it. So I started it up, went through the config, backed things up, and compared them. Looked good. I went off to do some things, and made some changes to some of my other directories, and came back to run backup again. Started it up, got to start backup, got to the status screen (with % completed and such) and crash. Mouse worked, but nothing else. Reboot, try backup again, crash. It seemed to stop right after trying to access the hard disk. Ok, reboot, chkdsk ok, diskfix (or what ever they call it) ok, backup crash. Ok, reboot, find the config file named cpbackup.cfg, delete it, and try backup again. Configs ok, backs up ok, and compares ok. Now try backup again. Crash. Reboot, try windows backup. Config it, backup, compare, ok. Try it again, it WORKS! Reboot, windows again, windows backup again, and it works again! It's a fairly clean system. Started as PC-DOS 4, installed windows, updated to ms-dos 5.0 (it's a 286 clone). config.sys has himem, smartdrv, and setver loaded. Autoexec.bat loads gmouse.com (for my genius mouse), mirror, the CP delete watcher (I forget what it's called), and two CP anti virus programs. I'd be more exact, but I'm not at home. While I haven't checked everything, this is the first part of PCTools which has not worked perfectly. Any ideas?? Thanks! bruce -- Bruce O'Neel oneel@heasfs.gsfc.nasa.gov NASA/GSFC/STX/Code 664
