Message-ID: <1991Jun17.003237.4895@brolga.cc.uq.oz.au> Date: 17 Jun 91 00:32:37 GMT Organization: Prentice Computer Centre, The University of Queensland, Australia. Lines: 34 Hi Netters, We have a 25 Mhz i486 here with a Prodesigner+ 16 bit VGA card. I have been noticing that the speed of the graphics in windows is very slow, especially when doing things like drag-selecting more than a screenful of text in wor for windows (this can be painfully slow - about 1 line per second). This worries me because someone else here with a 25 MHz i386 and a VGA card using the trident chipset, is getting much more speed out of his card. I have been hearing words on the net that trident's are very slow. If that is the case, then this Orchid card must be an absolute crock of a VGA card. Has anyone else out there been able to make a comparison between Orchids cards and other brands ? My system configuration is as follows ; 25 MHz i486 (Hauppauge) 8 Mb of RAM 8 Mb swap file (for windows enh) 100 Mb ESDI HD Orchid Prodesigner Plus VGA card NEC 3D monitor I am currently using the Orchid supplied windows 3 drivers (12?? x 7?? x 16) but the problem remains even if I use the standard drivers. Thanx in advance for any information reguarding this. ant V ant "I killed Laura Palmer" \o/ ant@brolga.cc.uq.oz.au -O- Anthony Murdoch Prentice Centre /0\ Phone (07) 36 54078 University of Qld
