I too have a similar choice to make. HD computers will sell me a 386-33/64K system for $1795, and they give a choice of an OPTI chipset MB and if you remember to ask, a C&T chipset MB at no extra cost. The main difference is that the Opti MB can take up to 16 MB RAM, while the C&T MB takes 32 MB (with 4 Meg SIMMs, which implies it'll only go to 8 Meg with 1 Meg SIMMs). When asked about which was better than the other, the reply was "They're both good!" Oh well... To make things even more difficult, they now offer an AMD-based 40 MHz machine for $1995. This one has a Data Expert (anyone know 'em?) MB with the OPTI chipset. And it takes 32MB RAM. Also: anyone know anything of the Quadram SVGA card with the Tseng ET4000 chipset? -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Iskandar Taib | The only thing worse than Peach ala Internet: NTAIB@AQUA.UCS.INDIANA.EDU | Frog is Frog ala Peach Bitnet: NTAIB@IUBACS ! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
