i'm trying to help an 11 year old friend of mine get caught up in school.  i  
thought a couple educational software packages might be a good idea.  he needs  
help with reading and basic arithmetic (i think now in school he's learning  
long division and fractions, but he could use help with the basics).

i ordered a couple programs on a 30-day trial basis:  talking tiles, a phonics  
program; and number maze, for arithmetic.

does anybody have any first hand experience with these programs, or any other  
suitable software packages?  he'll be entering the fifth grade next year, but  
his skills are probably at 3rd grade.  also, he lives in a spanish-speaking  
household, so maybe somebody knows of some bilingual software...
