I just started using DarkSide by Tom Dowdy of Apple.  It's an application
which runs in the background, so it avoids some of the problems associated
with inits.  It's works much like AfterDark, even has some graphics
modules which are similar to those in AfterDark.  I got it by anonymous
ftp from 128.83.1.21, but its probably at sumex and apple as well.
