I have to admit, I'm totally confused here.  You can't 'download' a file
from Usenet...it has to have been posted by someone.  Usually, a binary
file (such as a GIF) would have been encoded using the "uuencode"
program to avoid corruption by the UUCP mailers.  An exception here
would be binaries which show up in comp.binaries.mac (they're in
Binhex 4.0 format).

To decode the posting, save it in a file, combine the parts (if it's
a multiple-part file), strip off the header information and type:

   uudecode <file>

This will decode the file and place it into another file (check the
first line of the encoded file to find the file name).

Regarding FTP, only Internet sites can do anonymous ftp.  We're not
one of them (sniff!)...
