We also have had problems with the monitors on our Personal Irises.  When we
asked our SGI service person about the poor screen quality compared to our
4D-210 (which had no problems), we were told that we could not expect the
same picture quality on a PI as on a VGX machine.  A few weeks later, we
noticed the monitor on a demo machine from SGI had a much better picture than
ours; we asked for and received a new monitor, and haven't had any problems
since.
