The DSSSL standard provides a means of expessing the full range of document production specifications, including high quality typography required by the graphic arts industry. These specifications are defined by standard DSSSL semantics which allow users to fully specify the characteristics they wish to apply during document processing, such as composition, pagination, imposition, and data management facilities. The concepts behind DSSSL are associated with those that led to the development of generic coding, and specifically, with SGML. The exchange and separation of all information associated with a document, including content, style, logical and layout structures, is the focus of the DSSSL Standard.
