I realize that I am demonstrating my ignorance on a world-wide basis, but
that's part of being an educated person.

I would appreciate it if anyone could point me to some good references on A*
algorithms thus saving me several valuable hours of frustrating research time. 
Text references would be especially appreciated.  I recall this topic somewhere
back in graduate school, but I have explored it since then.
