The RZ57 device driver is,  apparently, broken.   I spent many an hour
on the phone with DEC in Atlanta last summer trying to find out why we
couldn't get the advertised 1 gig out of the RZ57 disks.  After much
discussion (they tried telling me the problem was that the disk was
formatted on a DECstation 3100!) Atlanta agreed that things weren't
right, and I filed an SPR.   At that time, they said that this would
most likely not be fixed under Ultrix 4.2.
