Unfortunately, if I understodd you correctly, this is precisely one of my problems. If I stay on the current line, in application mode, as I'm using Artic 3.03, it reads both columns at the same time, so you get bits and pieces, one line from each column, as you're reading across the line, rather than up and down like columns are written. I need a program that will let me know tow things. One, when I've reached the end of one column and begin another, at what cursor point, etc. Then, I need to know how many rows are in each column, in order to find out if there are the same amount of rows in each column. What is your program like? Would your program, or any other program you're familiar with, help solve these problems? I've talked with a few programmers, and none seem to be able to help.
