Brad, you answered my question--sort of.  Again, I do know about matching
procedures from wht I learned aT Seeing Eye and am sure it's the same
basically at Leader Dogs.  And, yes, there are manymany variables, and yes,
most matches are good.  Okay, let me do my question again--a bit
differently--let's see what we can come up with.  Each school has dogs which
it has selected to be guides by various processes.   Okay, now, Leader Dogs
doesn't have all the dogs in the world; Seeing Eye doesn't have all the dogs
in the world; Guide Dogs, etc., etc., doesn't, either.  At a given time, you
have the dogs you have which you have selected to be guides.  Okay, here comes
Mr. and Ms. Student to training class.  You have the dog variables to
consider; the student variables to consider and you have to try to match
according  to the pool of dogs you have and according to the students you have
in that class.  The only context in which I used "luck" was because you've got
to match the dogs you have available and trained at a given time with the
students who come to class.  I know that the schools know beforehand a lot
about the student and interview and evaluate the student when he/she comes to
class, but, you stll have that limited pool of dogs--since all the dogs
haven't been born yet, haven't been trained yet.  Is this any clearer?  You do
the best--the very very best you can--with the dogs and people you deal with.
I'm just trying to learn--so, thanks for your being patient with me.
