Simple, I take my blue-fronted amazon Ricky into the shower with me.  He
has a shower sitting on my arm.  Then when he's had enough I put him on a
stand outside the shower and have one myself.

I used to give him a spray bottle bath but ran into some of the same complaints
you mention.
