I would like soething a little more squishy than the Pachmayr's. # dave #========================================================================== # David Kardelis | I am the NRA # Univ. of Ilinois | Beer is Good, Beer is God # Gradual Student in Physics | LONG LIVE BEER! # dak@uihepa.hep.uiuc.edu | The Living are just the Dead on holiday #========================================================================== Pachmayr makes a number of different pads that vary in thickness, material and construction. The best one I have found is their Decelerator. It is quite soft and comes in three thicknesses: .6, .8 and 1.0 inch. I have been using them for some time now and am very pleased. In the past two months I have installed them on three rifles: a .300 H&H, a .375 Mashburn Super( a wildcat based on a blown out .375 H&H) both for friends, and on my .458. At the range this past week I managed to fire 65 rounds from the bench with only a very light discolouration of my shoulder. And that was because I tried firing the first 25 rounds using a benchrest technique of holding the pistol grip with one hand and the rear bunny bag with the other. This technique just allowed the gun too much of a running start before running into me. Brownell's carries all three thicknesses and charges around 30 bucks for each. They also carry another company's model made of Sorbothane which is even softer than the Decelerator but these cost about $10.00 more. The other drawback I think is the extreme thicknesses. The thinnest model is .8 inch and they go up to about 1.2 inch. You can get the Decelerator in the 1 inch thickness from Natchez for right around $20.00. It may increase the length of pull a little too much though so you might want to remove some wood from the butt of the rifle. If you don't have a source for the addresses of these companies email me and I will get them for you.
