In recent years, I've also seen advertised "Sorbothane" (tm) recoil
pads.  That's a polymer that's supposed to be highly energy absorbant.
Some of you may have come across Sorbothane insoles for your running
shoes or hiking boots.  I haven't tried it because I don't at the
moment shoot anything that hot.
