Since I have not seen this fix mentioned here yet, I wanted
to follow up on my complaint on irregular horizontal spacing in GS22
using an Epson LQ-series printer.  What fixed it for me was very
simple:

   ALWAYS PUT LQ PRINTERS IN "DRAFT" MODE BEFORE RUNNING GS 2.2!

This is necessary because the "<esc>\" command for horizontal
positioning, used in GS 2.2, is interpreted differently by the
printer (using a different assumed dot width) based on whether it
is in DRAFT mode or LQ mode.
