The subject says it - what is it ?

As far as i understand it, it means simple network management protocol - in
ads for terminals servers their manufacturers say they are snmp-compatible.
so - can one configure and maintain a lot of terminal servers with it ? and,
if so, how to get the software to do it ?

any pointers welcome!
