Boy, that would be a nice ship to have the points for... The ST:TNG ships are models, often mounted upside down (so that "below" shots are easier... just aim the camera down at the model). The sfx guys for the show are on CIS, and this question comes up a lot. I think they did say that they used Macs to create some of the "displays" and also used Macs in real life to CAD up ideas for new models. cheers - kevin
