It may be not in the same league with the other equipment you use, but is a great tool for pre-production. This box uses a Sony (currently) proprietary video networking protocol (VISCA). Vbox allows you to connect Sony VCR's with LANC to any computer using the RS-232C serial port. Upto 7 boxes can be daisy chained. The protocol itself is off the beaten path, but easy to use and more powerful than prior control protocols. You can couple the Vbox to the new Sony CCD-V801 Hi-8 camcorder which has Sony's new consumer time code. This new time code is written digitally so it is very accurate. The time-code can also be striped unto tapes that have video already recorded on them. The V801 & Vbox combination gives you frame accurate searching. You still won't get frame accurate edits with the camcorder, but you can get very decent ones using its new fine-synchro edit feature. Fine synchro-edit is a step above the normal synchro edits, giving greater accuracy. This feature is best accessed thru Vbox using the VISCA protocol. Look for new products that will support time-code, better editing, and VISCA. > > John Cooley > Advanced Technical Confusing > Colorado State University Of course anything said or implied here is my own opinion and does not reflect those of my employer. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Brian YAMANAKA (aka The VISCA dude) |"I knew I should have made that Sony Corporation, Personal Video Group | left turn at Albuquerque."
