BTW, don't even think about writing your own software until you have checked out FidoNet "point" software (many different packages) and "Waffle" (similar concept for Usenet). They integrate the whole process so you don't think in terms of logging in and automatically uploading and downloading. You think in terms of either just leaving your computer on all night so something mysterious happens or occasionally telling it to "do it's stuff". Then you are just writing and reading messages on your own computer.
