In other words, if the message is just sitting around after a successful delivery, and then you do an excerpt (or excerpt all), perhaps it would make sense to clear it out first. I agree that if it hasn't been delivered yet, this would be a very dumb thing to do; I'm also not sure if the differential behavior would be more trouble & confusion than it is worth....
